Product Engineer (Full-Time, Direct Hire) in Wixom, MI
Aluminum engineered products and castings for automotive components
The Barton Group is recruiting a Product Engineer for our client company’s US headquarters in Wixom, MI. 
This position reports to the local General Manager and also the Director of Engineering in Mexico.
This position is specifically for the company’s aluminum product line. The company also supplies plastic injected components and systems.
This position will be responsible for products including aluminum engine systems and plastic components for OEMs and Tier 1 automotive suppliers.
Position function:
  • Resident engineer for aluminum products and aluminum castings.
  • Be the main contact with OEMs by supporting all the new developments done by automotive OEMs, search for new developments that could be feasible for the supplier, and give technical support to decide if the new projects are feasible in our current process.
  • Manage and coordinate all the new projects between the supplier and the supplier’s customer.
  • Manage the entire math data received from the OEM.
  • Support all Technical Presentations to the OEM for every issue during the quoting and development of a new project.
  • Manage all of the direct information between the responsible design engineer from the OEM and suppliers.
  • Supply accurate and prompt support to the quoting process.
  • Develop and present technical presentations to the OEM for the new projects, supported with all the information collected during the quoting process and new manufacturing techniques.
  • Review and distribute for the entire math data (translations if required) and 2-D drawings received for any new project or engineering change received from the OEM.
  • Develop presentations and sketches showing new projects or engineering changes to support the quoting processes required from suppliers.
  • Coordinate all types of meetings between the supplier and OEM.
  • Support all the New Projects PPAP and Kick Off; track all necessary documentation required for the different release procedures (engineering, logistic, environmental).
  • Review and update all of the open issues log with all users (OEM, plant, suppliers).
  • Manage the time Gantt chart for the new projects.
  • Support technical development and purchasing with all of the OEM’s standards required for the manufacturability of the new projects.
  • Support all purchasing development for the new projects by reviewing all the new manufacturing techniques from the suppliers, cost improvements, engineering changes to cut costs, control all the math data and 2-D drawings from the supplier to have accurate and updated quotes from them.
  • Review and update the Milestones log with OEM to spill the information with all users (engineering, quality, sales, purchasing and suppliers).
  • Control all prototypes required for the early builds on every project, manage all information between the prototype builder and the DRE (manufacturability proposals, engineering changes, definition on the tools to be used.)
Education:                         Must have BS in Engineering.
Experience:                       4+ years’ experience with Tier 1 or Tier 2 or OEMs.
Language:                          English, Spanish is not required but a plus.
Travel:                                Availability to travel occasionally.
Salary:                                $ 90K to $ 105K base plus a potential bonus. Negotiable based on experience/fit. Benefits include health insurance, dental & vision, 401 K.
